The Crop Paintings seek to question the veracity of the natural world as it is traditionally depicted in certain art historical tropes. As always, the scenes are based on memory, direct observation and imagination. Entitled The Crop Paintings, these recent works are shaped from birch plywood with a router before the painting process begins, in a kind of pre-cropping action. By removing the traditional square/rectangle orientation of a given landscape, I have taken away those four familiar corners that have always contained our frame of reference.
